Screen Resolutions for a Wallpaper Pack

Recommended Posts

Hello there, i'm going to upload a Wallpaper pack of a creation of my own but i can't decide wich and how much sizes i'll make. I want my wallpaper to fit on the most representative Screen Resolutions, from 16:9, 16:10, 4:3, small devices, hi-res devices, vertical or horizontal.

What screen sizes do you recomend me to do?

320 x 480 is a very common resolution for mobile phones.

For desktops

Full Screen:

  • 800 x 600
  • 1024 x 768 - iPad
  • 1280 x 960
  • 1280 x 1024
  • 1600 x 1200

Widescreen:

  • 1280 x 720
  • 1280 x 800
  • 1366 x 768
  • 1440 x 900
  • 1680 x 1050
  • 1920 x 1080
  • 1920 x 1200

I think 1920x1080 and 1920x1200 should work for most. Wallpapers that size can be shrunk down much better than expanding wallpapers of a smaller resolution to the higher resolutions.

I wouldn't worry about 4:3 as those monitors are getting rare and they can use the 16:10 wallpapers with minimal loss of content

You're assuming that the average user has the knowledge to be able to re-size an image. Although it's a beginners task to accomplish, the majority of end users wouldn't know where to start. Give the computer illiterates a method of right-clicking and Set as Background and they're happy. :D

In short, the more resolutions you give them, the more popular your wallpaper will be.

Although if set correctly, you can use a 1920 x 1080 wallpaper on a 640 x 480 desktop without loss of the image, loss of detail sure, but stretch wallpapers is brilliant

(I jest I use a 1920 x 1080 res)

Windows does it automatically?

Not so much, you can choose stretch or fit, but if the wallpaper is too big o r too small the image will get blurred depending on how far off the image is from your native screen resolution.

2560x1440 needs some love! :)

Thought about dual-screen wallpapers?

Add the most common smart phone/tablet resolutions. :)

You can start with iPhone and iPad, also add Retima versions and don't forget the top Android/WP phones and tablets out or announced

800x600 >

Where is the poll ? lol

I guess it's about crowd-sourcing resolutions more than anything.

Anyhow, alway publish the biggest you can go with.

It's easy to make pictures smaller, it's impossible to fill space with information that isn't there.

And upscaling is cheesy as hell,

especially as all other desktop elements look crisp and fresh. :)

Have a look at the resolutions on Interfacelift! I'd just include the biggest possible of every category. Gotta give some love to the Retina Macbook and high-res monitor people.

1920x1200.

Although I've noticed that I won't be able to say that for much longer if I get a new laptop. They all seem to go for the ridiculous resolution of 1366x768.
