Canon iP4600 Printer and Windows 8

Recommended Posts

Well I have made the switch and am having an issue... My Canon iP4600 printer worked with the last public beta of Windows 8 .. but now that I have RTM it no longer works. Windows says that there is no driver available, and Canon won't help as Windows 8 "hasn't been released yet". So I'm kind of stuck and hate to switch back to 7 or install a Linux build just to be able to print. I've tried to download and install the software manually from Canon and run compatibility modes with no success. Keeps saying that the device is unplugged. Am I stuck? Just have to wait? Is there anything I can do like hack drivers from the public beta builds? I didn't have an issue printing before but I do now that 8 has RTM'd. I am using Windows 8 Enterprise N x64.

software and driver manufacturers are notorious for locking down their applications/drivers so they don't install on newer operating systems, For a workaround you can install the driver on another computer with a supported operating system and get the unpacked driver files or installer from the temp directory.

Repeat what you did to get to the screen which says the device is unplugged, Open the task manager and select the process > go to details > open file path

This should be somewhere inside the temp folder, copy this directory somewhere and get the device manager to search it for drivers

I never thought of that... Thanks!!!

I may be looking in the wrong directory but I'm not finding anything specific for the printer....

Canon is getting closer!!!
