Samsung Stops Making LCD Screens for Apple

Recommended Posts

A Samsung employee told Korea Times that the company has stopped making touchscreens for Apple, a major component of the iPad. Despite legal tussles between the companies over design patents of smartphones and tablets on a near-global scale, Samsung maintained a supplier relationship with Apple, making touchscreens and contract-manufacturing ASICs at its semiconductor fabs. According to the employee's statement to the newspaper, Apple has become a troublesome customer paying less and less for LCD screens, resulting in the Korean company to cut back on orders. Apple has been paying half of what it used to for screens in the iPad 2. The upcoming iPad Mini, which will be launched a little later this week, will not feature Samsung screens.

[...] a Samsung spokesman told CNET that the Korea Times post was 100 percent false.

"Samsung Display has never tried to cut the supply for LCD panels to Apple," the spokesman said.

He added that Samsung is asking the Korea Times to revise its story.

With all the money Apple has you would think they would keep their suppliers happy, even if they are their differences. They better be careful not to **** off too many people or they are gonna end up without suppliers one day.

That's good to know. No sense in burning bridges when there is no need.

It would hurt Samsung a lot more than Apple to be honest

You do realise that Samsung is one of the largest companies in the world? I can't imagine it would make much of an impact...
