My parents gave me an old laptop of my sisters that stopped working. My sister claimed the laptop shut off while she was using it and saw smoke come out of the DC jack. So I asked my parents if I could have the laptop to work on and repair, so they let me have it, as I could use it for web browsing if I could get it working. I've already disassembled the laptop and determined the issue is that the DC power board and jack is shot, not a problem since a replacement board is around $7. I will be receiving the part tomorrow (Thursday) so my time tomorrow includes re-assembling the laptop and testing it out providing it powers on (which it should), the only problem I am likely going to have is remember what screws go where.
