copying constant cell references to new excel file

Hey, Lets say A1 = $A$20, A2=$A$21....

if I move A1 to B1. it still references A20, great.

if I insert a row between 1,20 then A1=$A$21. great.

Now I want to move the entire column to a new excel file. Here, the cells will be copied to column C. C1=$A$20..... How do I make it update this constant reference and make it C1=$C$20 ??

I can go through and change things with find and replace but that's a pain...
