Cylindrical UFO Videotaped By Kentucky Amateur Astronomer

An unidentified flying object was reportedly seen in several areas

of Pike County on Tuesday, but officials have no information as to

what the object may have been.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Shaun Little told the News-Express

that KSP Post 9 in Pikeville received five calls on Tuesday

reporting the object in the sky. The object was visible from

several areas, including the South Williamson area and Elkhorn City

in Pike County, as well as Jenkins in Letcher County. It was also

spotted and photographed in Virgie.

Virgie resident Allen Epling said he was home with his wife and

several friends Tuesday afternoon when the granddaughter of one of

their visitors said there was a ?strange airplane? in the sky.

Epling, his wife and their guest went outside and watched as the

object hovered in the sky for more than two hours, Epling said.

?It was just a very bright daylight star that was getting brighter,

then getting dimmer, then getting brighter again,? Epling said.

Epling described the object in the sky as cylindrical with two

white tubes on both sides and semi-transparent. He said it could be

seen against a clear afternoon sky with no cloud cover.

Police responded to calls reporting the object in the sky, but were

unable to gather any information.

?We received several calls about it, but our trooper was unable to

locate any object in the sky,? Little said.

Officials with the United States Department of Defense in

Washington, D.C., and the Kentucky Air National Guard told the

News-Express the agencies had no information on unidentified

objects in the sky over Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday.

Pike County Emergency Management Director Doug Tackett said he

received calls about the object but emergency management did not

respond to the event in any capacity.

A representative at the Pikeville-Pike County Regional Airport said

he was expecting a plane to land at the airport around the time the

unidentified object was spotted in the sky. He added, however, that

he was unaware of any objects in the sky other than the plane,

which he said was approaching the airport from a different

direction than the direction in which the object was spotted.

The sighting of the alleged UFO sparked speculation as to what the

object may have been. Epling said he is sure the object was not a

balloon, a helicopter, an airplane or a satellite. An amateur

astronomer, Epling, who photographed the object through a

high-powered astronomical telescope, said he has never seen

anything like the object.

?I?ll be honest, I?ve never seen anything like it and I?ve

struggled to come up with a good explanation for what it may have

been,? he said.

Epling said his wife told him the object disappeared while he was

inside his home uploading photos of the object to Facebook. She

said it began to drift, appeared to be enveloped by something and

was gone.

The event was an exciting one for Epling.

?I?ve wanted to see a UFO all my life,? he said. ?I wasn?t scared,

I was fascinated, especially to see something out of the ordinary.?

well if we could see the video we could easily tell if it was or wasn't

UFO sighted over Virgie, KY on 10/16/2012. Video taken by Allen Epling through a Meade 8" SCT astronomical telescope. I want to emphasize that the object is NOT moving, The picture is unsteady because I had to hold the camera in hand while trying to video it through the eyepiece of the telescope.

Video here:

Sorta looks like those double rotary blade helicopters with a very shiny under-belly

only problem with that argument is there is no movement of the lines that would be the rotars..... you'd see vibration

Near the end of the video it seems to have some sort of blur appear where you would imagine the blades to be on the left side of the object, that's what caught my eye and made me think helicopter

Its clearly real aliens (different race to the ones cruising round in the triangular ship) using some sort of camouflage technology. Maybe this is where we got the camera trickery that makes stuff appear transparent.

Why can't anyone ever take a damn picture of video that is in focus!

They can, but those ones don't end up in "It's a conspiracy" because you can see what they really are :p

"camera in hand while trying to video it through the eyepiece of the telescope."

The camera would have been focusing on the eyepiece, not what the telescope was looking at. Doesn't help that the guy isn't holding the camera steady which causes it to constantly try to refocus. Would have been nice to see a picture instead of a screenshot taken out of the video that wasn't focused to begin with.

^ The best cameras in the world are not going to overcome fog, electromagnetic haze, clouds, poor lighting, shakiness and excited state of the operator, the sometimes quick motion of the UFO, or the long distance between object and camera.

Not everyone has a camera at the ready, or thinks to get out a camera.

Many people would be reluctant to report a good UFO sighting as well.

That's true. A lot of these events often produce electromagnetic haze. Many people who see a UFO or see something strange in the Bermuda Triangle often remark about that fact.
