Couple arrested after reporting drugs found in rental home

REX, Ga. ?

A man and his wife were arrested after telling police about drugs they found in a rental property they own.

Michael Keeley told Channel 2?s Eric Philips that authorities arrested three men living in his rental property in Rex in October. Keeley said investigators found meth inside the car that two of the men were in.

Investigators then combed Keeley?s rental house for evidence before handing the property back over to him, he said.

Keeley said his wife and 9-year-old accompanied him to the home on Sunday to clean it up and get it ready for new tenants. Inside the home, Keeley said he found eight bags of narcotics hidden behind the walls.

Keeley said he immediately called the authorities, but he was shocked by their reaction. Officers interrogated him and his wife before arresting them on charges of tampering with evidence, he said.

Keeley said officers threatened to send their 9-year-old to the Department of Family and Children Services, but a neighbor stepped up to watch him.

The couple spent two days in the Clayton County Jail before each posted a $5,000 bond.

?Now, I will be forever reluctant to pick up the phone and dial the police again,? Keeley said.

Keeley and his wife still have to go to court to face the charges.

Sue that stupid f****** department for a wrongful arrest and get a full apology as well. The officers and detachment in question should be suspended for a time.

Not sure of the full story here and probably never will be but if this is the full story and is true then, yes, the police deserve to be investigated for the matter as it is disgusting.

However, as has been mentioned already, we may not know the full story.

I think we need the other side of this story.

Precisely. Typical local TV news story. Completely one-sided. Who knows if this Keeley guy is telling the truth? I do wonder the extent of the tampering charge. Seems a bit harsh if all he did was remove the drugs from the bathroom wall. Did he open the bags and sneak some of the drugs out?

Without a statement from the DA or police, or a copy of the charges, we don't have enough to go on here.

Sorry, but to all those calling for a lawsuit, which is a total knee-jerk reaction, I think I'll reserve judgement.

^ I think that if I ever found something like a dead body, I would not call the police, because of the many who immediately become suspects, simply because they thought it was the right thing to report it.

This is why i hate police.

Being around them scares the **** out of me, they make me feel intimidated and knowing that they can just turn round and lock me up whenever they feel like it makes me feel on edge.

(They shouldn't be able to do this, but it seems they just please themselves, spouting some crap law which gives them more and more power) Ever since 911 the world is being taken over. Police and governments are getting/taking more and more power.Maybe I've forgotten which thread I'm in xD (not the conspiracies thread)

I think we need the other side of this story.

the other side is that there possibly was money in the house too, which would make sense being that it was a drug house. However the money was conviently the only thing missing from the home when they called the police. Their stories didn't match and they were changing them around when questioned about the money and so they were ultimately charged with tampering with evidence.

Let me ask all of you people who are saying sue the police a question. How likely is it you think somebody who runs a drug house with meth hidden in the walls would abandon the house and leave the drugs behind with a street value of at least 100k but take all the money. Don't you think they would take everything or nothing if they were in that much of a rush to leave? so yeah the homeowners were suspected of taking the money for themselves before they called police. And anytime an adult with kids is arrested and another adult family member isn't immediately available to take custody of the children DFACS is always called. It wasn't a threat to them or anybody else it was just a simple statement of fact, we'll have to call DFACS if you can't find somebody to get your kids.
