ScorpioRGc1
Windows 8 comes packaged with Windows Security Essentials, which is very good. If you're looking for something else, I can confirm the latest version of Avast works fine. threetonesun and (Spork) 2 Share

Scorbing
whats compatible ? been looking with little to no luck You don't need any. Like Scorpio RGc1 said, it already comes with Windows Defender (MSE) built-in. There is not need to install extra AV garbage on it that will likely slow it down to a drag. You already have all the protection you need. Stay away from porn, poker sites, stupid ads offering you free iPads and use common sense along with Windows Defender and you will be just fine. I work at an IT department and we have a WPA2 enterprise network on our campus. Student brought in a brand new Samsung laptop that had the 30 day Norton trial bloatware garbage pre-installed on the system, as it couldn't connect to our wifi. Tried a dozen different things to get it on, what finally worked was uninstalling Norton and putting MSE on instead. Aside from this isolated incident (which happens a lot, I might add, with both Norton and McAfee), Norton products are trash, and I would never let that bloated decaying corpse of software near any computer I use. Innuendo
Norton software is better than it used to be, but it still has a ways to go before it's as good as some of the other offerings out there. Agnitum's products are Windows 8-compatible, too, but there's no way I'd use MSE after I sat and watched a Windows 7 system get infected before my very eyes with trojans while the little green system tray icon stayed quiet without so much as a peep. Cleaned out 16 trojans off of that system that MSE didn't think were threats at all.

goretsky Supervisor Posted November 5, 2012 Supervisor Share Posted November 5, 2012 Hello, Many anti-malware vendors have versions of their software out that works with Windows 8 but are still in the process of going through certification with Microsoft. Testing labs AV-Comparatives and AV-Test are both keeping track of which programs are available for Windows 8: AV-Comparatives: Windows 8 approved security products AV-TEST: Market Overview - Security Products for Windows 8 I would suggest checking them frequently, as they both seem to be updating their lists on a daily basis. kevpan815
Avast runs just fine on Windows 8! :-)
kevpan815
P.S. To those people replying MSE, MSE is NOT Compatible with Windows 8 according to the Windows 8 Upgrade Advisor and will Prompt You to Remove it Before Upgrading to Windows 8. As I said, Avast will run on Windows 8 without needing to do any Tricks like using Windows 8 Compatibility Mode to run the Program and is now actually Certified by Microsoft to run on Windows 8 with out any Major Problems. My Recommendation is to use Avast Internet Security on Windows 8. It runs just fine on it. Just FYI.
