Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek: The Next Generation) has closed a deal with Starz to develop Outlander, a new drama series based on the bestselling fantasy/romance/adventure books from author Diana Gabaldon.

The Outlander book series centers on Claire, a married WWII combat nurse, who mistakenly steps back in time to the year 1743 where she is thrown into an unknown world of adventure that sends her on the run. When Claire is forced to marry a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior named Jamie, it ignites a whirlwind of emotions that tears Claire's heart between two vastly different men in two opposing lives.

According to Deadline, Moore will pen the series, with Jim Kohlberg's Story Mining and Supply Co producing. Outlander will be set up at Sony Pictures TV, which acquired the book rights last summer and attached Moore to the project.

Even though the premise sounds awful to me, I bet he makes a decent movie of it.
