920 is an amazing phone!

well I am really liking my 920. I was getting impatient with the late release date and was hours away from getting a S3. But I'm glad I waited and got it. My iPhone 5 was fine but this is a lot nicer. the sheer size felt a little odd but 3 days later its not an issue. I also got my wireless charger for free from my AT&T pre-order. Its on there now. A lot of people have had battery issue's and I was one of them. But today after a couple of days of letting it drain and charging it's starting to get better.

My friend says 920 sucks rats-ass

Wow that is sure helpful. How about you actually give some thoughts on it and not just an insult. I could just say your friend sucks rats-ass but I won't :)

I got a matte black 920 last Friday and my wife bought the white one. Loving them so far, I took about 15 minutes of 1080p video yesterday and it hardly dented the battery. The picture quality is superb and the screen ppi makes everything look gorgeous. Little upset that a few of my favourite apps are no longer compatible and that others such as Skype and Photosynth weren't there from day 1.

One thing that I think Apple has over the Microsoft experience at the moment is the ability to backup and import all of your apps and settings in one shot. I was not happy to have individually download my apps (even using the previous purchases page in the Windows store) and was gutted that all my game saves couldn't be carried over. Still, there's nothing holding them back from including this as an update at a later point (hint, hint) ;)

Replaced an iPhone 4s and Samsung focus 2 and were loving it. Nokia really went balls out with the hardware and software. Performance and features are amazing, hope they market the crap out of it. Nokia maps 3d is nice, downloaded Texas maps and it got me where I needed to go. Nokia music is cool, Nokia lense is fun, will have to try that in another city to see what it recommends. App marketplace is really refined for ease of discovery, wallet is great, finally pin protected purchases across the board. The screen is amazing and experience is smooth and fluid. Nice hardware.

How's the camera in daylight? I heard it's fairly mediocre, only really good in dark environments.

You will only get 3G speeds and not 4G lte.Tmobile is buying ATT 4G LTE towner usages but you will not see those speeds in a few years. Wait and hope Nokia release a tmobile version or buy the world version or get an 8x.

Trust me. Same here in the US.

and same here in the UK. I'm not dropping my deal i have with my current provider (3) just to get a 920.

Is a shame but it's just not happening.

I'm in exactly the same situation. 3's unlimited data is too attractive and EE's offering just doesn't compare - even with the faster download speeds. I'm waiting for Clove to get more stock in (and hopefully in the other colours) and will buy one from them.

It's not like Nokia doesn't want to sell it's phone to everyone but if the carriers sweeten the deal, and if it's only temporary for 3 or so months, then it's probably in their best interest business wise to do it. If the exclusive deals mean the carriers actually promote and put it's phones up front and not in some dark back corner of their stores then it's for the best. I'm sure marketing money comes into play with these deals compared to it's other, non-exclusive, devices that you'll see in stores but not advertised nearly as much as the 920 will be.

Yeah exactly. I'm not much of a talker or texter and pretty much everything i do is via the internet. So all you can eat un-restricted data for ?26 a month (discounted as i'm a long term customer, along with 5000 texts and 500 minutes and discounted mainland euro calls) is to good to give up.

It was only when i was typing my original post that i realised my upgrade date was today so i just phoned up and ordered the Blue 8X. And to top it off, not only does the phone not have any initial outlay cost, it comes with a free Windows 8 boxed upgrade which will take care of the one remaining PC in my house :p

Well, I've had my upgrade pre-order in with AT&T since they were available to pre-order and it still read as processing at the website. Called them this morning and they don't have any in stock, and they have no ETA on when they will be getting any...

Kind of p**ses me off, as I was hoping to have it before my vacation next week. I think I am going to shoot to the next town over and see if the AT&T store there has any. Hopefully I don't have to deal with BS trying to cancel my order over the phone if they do.

It's such a pain to try and order a 920 off of expansys, they want me to send them photocopies of my info and all that, not to mention the final price for the white 920 will be 725euros! Man, forget it at this point, I'll just get a black 8x which I can actually buy from one of the retail tech shops here in Greece. It would've been nice if it had one of the colors though.

windows phone 8 has a backup to the cloud option. So on new phones its there already. Are you coming from a windows phone 7 phone? is that option in the settings pane like it is on wp8?

Unlike WP7, WP8 does save your app list and app settings to the cloud but when you get a new WP8 device you still have to reinstall the apps, it's just the app list that will show up as it was. That means that when you click on the app it will go and grab it and install it right there and then, it doesn't automatically install them back for you, not at this point anyways. It also doesn't sync your start screen layout from what I've read so you have to go though and customize it like you had it before as well.

The one key thing I'd wish they'd save, but they don't seem to, is game saves, meaning you once again have to start over. Such a pain IMO.

Ugh. Took around 2 hours on the phone with AT&T to cancel my previous order as it just so happens the order just got sent today, so I had to do the run around with them.

The good news, for having to deal with all that. I got the phone completely free of charge, with the wireless dock included, AND they added $100 credit to my account. I went to a local corporate store and picked it up. I wanted the blue one, but all they had was the black matte one. No big deal. The wireless dock should be here in a couple days... And they are still sending me the blue one, since they can't stop the shipment now.

Free phone, wireless dock, no upgrade free, and $100... Yes please, thank you very much.

Anyway, I've been playing with it for awhile. It is neat, and city lens is really cool. Two things I cannot figure out. 1.) How in the world do you fast forward or skip around in audio files. 2.) I got the Xbox Music Pass, but everytime I click on it, it just takes me back to the subscription page. I am a little lost on it.

EDIT: Ok, I figured out the fast forward thing... Have to hold down the skip track button, which I tried before, but it wasn't working. Then, the speaker on my phone stopped working. Had to restart the phone and now the speaker and fast forward works. That worries me. The thing is only an hour old or so, and the speaker has already stopped working once....

I haven't seen a single update since the first day I got it. I did a test today. I let my phone sit, without touching it once. No texts or phone calls. I took it off the charger at 8AM and it was dead at 8PM, without any touching or interference once-soever. It has also restarted itself twice today, without me touching it. I am now wondering if I got a faulty phone, or if this is normal? (I've been sick with a fever, so I have been in bed all day watching T.V. with my phone on my nightstand. I noticed it shutting off twice and back on, in that time.)

12 hours on standby 100% of the time is a poor battery, seeing as how my two year old Samsung Galaxy S will last nearly two days on standby.

Should I be concerned?

I would be concerned. My Lauch day 3GS which is 2 1/2 years old and I retired 6 months ago goes a week or more on standby easily. So yes please be concerned.

The above stats are from Nokia's Spec Page for the 920. Totally doesnt sound like you are getting that time.

O_O 52 hours of music playback? 320 hours standby?

Yeah, there is definitely something wrong then. I barely use my phone and it barely makes it a days without touching. I am wondering if they overestimated their stats, or if my phone really is that bad...
