Xbox Music App volume and Skype (Desktop)

Recommended Posts

I've used the feedback tool in the music app to report this issue however I was wondering if anyone else on here has experienced it and has any solutions or workarounds for the time being until it's resolved.

If Skype is running on the desktop and there's a video call going the Xbox Music app will reduce the volume of the music significantly but only when the music app is put into the background. I have set Windows not to reduce the volume or mute when in a video call and desktop apps still play at full volume. As soon as the call is ended on Skype the music app returns to full volume.

If the music app is snapped to the left or right of the desktop the music remains at full volume, it seems to only do this when going into the background. It's as if it's ignoring the volume settings which is set to do nothing when in a video call.

I have also set Skype to not control the speakers or microphone level so it isn't Skype which is causing this issue, I've also noticed that modern apps volume cannot be controlled individually from within the desktop.

Resolved. I installed the latest Windows updates and it seems to have resolved the issue. Though it could potentially be the fact that the system was rebooted.

Update: This isn't resolved and is still an issue in Windows 8. Each time the system is rebooted the issue is resolved however shutting down the system and powering it back on using Window 8's new shutdown routine causes the issue to reappear. It might be something to do with the Realtek drivers, has anyone else experienced this with other sound cards?

I've had issues with AC3/DTS playback issues with non-certified Windows 8 drivers where the volume drops or sound stops and remains that way until the machine is rebooted or logged out/back in. Same issue across two different machines on x64 using Windows Vista/7 x64 drivers.

Only resolution was to locate and update to Windows 8 x64 drivers for both systems then the issues have been resolved. I wasn't able to find any updated version from Realtek themselves but I was able to find OEM updated versions from Dell (one system is dell, the other is ASUS). Both systems are now working correctly.

This is still not fixed.

There is a setting for this in volume control. Setting it to "do nothing" does not affect xbox music.

It is not just xbox music. All metro apps that play audio and video in the background. It is an OS problem not xb music. I have the same issue with steam running. Volume is dramatically when in the background.

Funny how after a year later this is still an issue and MS doing nothing about it.

They're too busy reimplementing new start menus or whatever they're doing. There is this and a few other glaring issues in Windows 8.1 which they still haven't fixed. One being the slow DirectDraw games and the other the mfmp4srcsnk.dll issue. I stopped using Xbox Music because of this, I don't even have it installed anymore.

I was going to buy subscription but this issue prevented me from buying last year and this year again...
