beats headphones Beats Wireless Headphones not pairing

I just got a pair of beats wireless headphones, but cannot get them to pair with the Galaxy S3. According to the instructions, all I should have to do is turn the headphones on and then go into the phone settings and turn the bluetooth on. I've done this and I have also checked the selection to make the phone discoverable to other nearby devices. The headphones still won't pair. I contacted beats support and they told me I can clear the settings by holding the power button and the volume down button, and that should result in a red/blue flashing light -- nothing is happening. The instructions also state the headphone can be reset by connecting the charging cord and then holding the power button and the volume up button. That also isn't doing anything. There seems to be no way to reset or clear the settings and the headphones won't pair.
