Family of teen who fell from wheel well of jet sues

The family of a teen who fell from the wheel well of a jet in a Boston suburb two years ago is suing Charlotte, Charlotte-Douglas International Airport and US Airways.

The family of 16-year-old Delvonte Tisdale says negligence by the city, the airport and the airline caused the teen to fall from a Boeing 737 to his death.

The lawsuit filed in Charlotte says the city, the airport and the airline should have done more to prevent Tisdale from getting onto the tarmac and into the wheel well of the plane. It seeks damages in excess of $10,000.

"The city remains saddened by the death of Delvonte Tisdale and wishes to express sympathy for his family. However, I don?t see how the city or the airport could or should be held legally liable for Mr. Tisdale's decisions and actions," city attorney Bob Hagemann said in a statement in response to the lawsuit.

The teen ran away from home on Nov. 14, 2010, authorities said. His body was found in a Boston suburb a day later so badly damaged that an autopsy could not determine the cause of death.

Authorities said Tisdale apparently made it onto the airport tarmac and climbed into the wheel well of a Boston-bound jet.

Sure it would have been nice if security caught him, but they not under legal obligation to unless they saw him and let him do it. No security is 100%, and they did not guarantee this to the family before the incident. It doesn't matter if they chased him and he slipped past, or he slipped past undetected, it is not security's responsibility to take away then teenagers own personal responsibility not to do it in the first place.

So if someone sneaks in your house and fall to death, you should be responsible for it?

Is there a law to sue the parents for irresponsible to look after their kids?

Sad story being a runaway but I don't think the airport should be held liable for the death. They should probably beef up security, though.

That's not far from the truth sadly

Been many a story of the burglar who injured themselves climbing in or out of someones house and sued the home owner

Oh joy yet another BS lawsuit. If anything the city, airport, and airline should be suing the idiot's family for not preventing their idiot kid from killing himself. Ha it'd make about as much sense.

I don't think so obviously, but I do remember cases of buglers getting injured while in someone else's house and suing the owner (I don't know the outcome of those).
