Facebook users who have listed themselves as "In a Relationship" or "Married" and linked their profile to their partner's will find that Facebook has automatically generated them a couple page, celebrating their love. The couple's page skims off a photo of the happy pair together as the profile picture, lists all events that the two have mutually attended and the Likes that they have in common. It shows all photos that both are tagged in and lists wall posts that each have put on the other's wall. You don't need to be a dyspeptic technology hack to find this nauseating. Yes, it's all data you uploaded, but it belongs to Facebook now, and there's not much you can do about how they remix and reuse it. The only way out of the couple page appears to be breaking up with your partner (on Facebook) or flat out defriending them. Breaking up with them on Facebook will send everyone in your friendship circles a notification that your relationship has ended next to a graphic of a broken heart. With Facebook user sign-ups decreasing in the States and Europe, and shareholder interest increasing, in an angry why-has-the-share-price-fallen-so-badly way, Facebook are pulling tricks out of the hat but this does seem a flat move and wrests the power of "curation" from the hands of the actual users themselves. "Friendship pages" have existed since 2010, and list all interactions between you and any given friend. In some ways Couple Pages are just a slight tweak to that format with added information about when you changed the status of your relationship and the distinction of a particularly twee URL Facebook.com/us but in others they're symptomatic of a twee, interfering, Coca-Cola-marketing friendly graveyard of web 2.0 that Facebook has become. Relationship isn't really official unless it's on Facebook you know? Realistically the only difference is that it's referring to your romantic relationship by title rather than calling it a "friendship". They simply took the option to "see friendship", which displays an almost identical to this to show your friendship between you and a friend, and tweaked it slightly. This is basically functionality that has been there for a long time now. If you want an idea as to what it looks like and how it functions, just go to any of your friends profiles and look for "View Friendship" or something similar. It's merely a Friendship Page, and Facebook provides one of these for every connection, whether they're a couple or not. These Friendship Pages are exactly the same as any other Friendship Page, including those between you and an acquaintance. The only difference is that people who are tagged as in a relationship (or one of the variants) can access the Friendship Page they share with that person by going to http://www.facebook.com/us (at least, with the new version). Friendship Pages only show content that people can see anyway if they look down each person's Timeline. There is nothing wrong or bad about this at all. If you find it nauseating, just don't look at the page or stop sharing things on your partner's Timeline. If you don't want to see stuff you've shared with your partner, you have the option of not sharing things. You only have yourself to blame, not Facebook, as Facebook are only presenting the content that you've shared. Further, this page ceases to be accessible when you are no longer on each other's Friends list. Doesn't look anything like the pic in the OP to me :( Facebook announced the new layout earlier this week (or late last week; I can't quite remember), and it is slowly rolling out to everyone :) Exactly.
