Gabe Newell will be joining the ranks of videogame legends as an inductee of the AIAS Hall of Fame.

Co-founder and managing director of Valve Gabe Newell, fondly known as Gaben to some fans, will be joining the ranks of videogame legends such as Shigeru Miyamoto, Sid Meier, and John Carmack when he's officially inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) in a few months.

Half-Life 3 and jokes about Valve's tardiness aside, the quality of games produced by Valve under Newell's leadership, not to mention Steam's success, makes him an obvious choice: "Gabe?s vision for the interactive industry has created lasting effects that have completely reshaped this generation?s digital distribution model, paving the way for independent developers and creating an invaluable service for consumers. It is a great honor to have Gabe inducted into the Academy?s Hall of Fame," stated President of AIAS Martin Rae.

The induction ceremony will be taking place in February 2013 at the D.I.C.E. Summit, where Newell will also be making his Thursday conference keynote speech.

The D.I.C.E. Summit will be taking place from February 5-8, 2013 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
