vpn Looking for advice on VPN

I've recently started to worry about online security and have thought about getting a VPN. Although, I know very little about them.

I have a few questions;

• if I used one, I'd go for one that doesn't keep logs. Does this mean my traffic is hidden from everyone? Even my ISP.
  
• Secondly, If so, does that mean that if I torrent over it, my ISP wont be able to throttle my connection at peak times like it does just now?
  
• Will using a VPN slow down my connection (max 8mbit download) at all?
  
• I have a 1gbit VPS (3 users per server) that I use to host test websites and as a seedbox for torrenting. Could I set up VPN software on it?
  
  • Would a paid option be better than setting up my own on my server?
    
  • Can anyone recommend software to install?
    
    • Any personal experiences with this method?

I'll let someone else handle most of these questions, but if you choose to tunnel through a VPN for traffic, then you will be at the mercy of the VPN server's bandwidth speed. And yes your ISP can still throttle your traffic.

And if your worried about anyone finding out who you are, any reputable business will turn over your user account information in a heartbeat to the authorities to keep themselves in business vs keeping you safe from any activities you may be doing online.

Seems it may not be worth it. Especially not for a paid one anyway. Most of what I read online agrees with you.

I think I will set one up on my VPS just to play around with so still looking for suggestions on what to use for this and any personal experience.
