[Pubudu Kodikara]

I have just setup dual monitors. One is a full HD 23 inch LED monitor. The other one is a 19 inch LCD monitor. Both are powered by the same VGA. No spliter. The 23 inch display is powered by HDMI and the other one use the normal analogue out. My questions are...

• Is this a good setup?
  
• Can it decrease performance?
  
• Will the 19 inch LCD display effect the whole video output? (low quality)

I have a similar set up except my 23" monitor is using DVI, and there is no performance hit that I have noticed, I do my gaming and watch videos on the 23" monitor, and look at e-mail, browse webpages, and organize files on my 19" monitor. It works great!

uh.. so they're both on the same VGA, but the 23 inch is on HDMI.... what ?

Yep The VGA have 3 outs... Analogue, DVI and HDMI. HDMI is connected to the 23 inch monitor and the Analogue is connected to the 19 inch monitor

You're confusing people. VGA is an output type like DVI or HDMI. You probably mean your GPU has three outputs: VGA, DVI and HDMI.

Well to be fair, VGA and VGA connector are 2 different things.. VGA = Video Graphics Array, which is hardware, but your right, people don't really use the term anymore.

If it does what you want it to do, then yes, it's a good setup. Cop-out answer, but I don't know how else to answer something that's so subjective.

Yes, in the sense that you don't get extra displays without extra processing being done *somewhere*. The real question is, will you notice any slowdown? I would say, probably not. You never identified your video card.

Again, probably not, unless you have some really funky configuration that forces you to use the lowest common denominator (either resolution or refresh rate, or both). Stay away from that crapware from ATI that tries to present both monitors to the OS as a single large display. Ideally, both displays should be driven independently.

I'm personally using 3 identical 24" monitors (1920x1200), and my video card (Radeon HD 6670 from ASUS) has 3 different outputs (DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort). However, in the past I've had all sorts of weird combinations, including a mix of video cards from ATI and Nvidia in the same machine, and haven't had any major problem. Your configuration is downright straightforward by comparison.
