Hey, I'll be receiving my 6870 sometimes next week. I was planning to swap them, but then I get the thinking, is there support for dual GFX cards in Ubuntu? Not using Xfire. Running Ubuntu 12.10 w/ Cinnamon.

I have an extra PCI-E slot. Plus my PSU is a Corsair TX650, so I should be OK there. I do have 2 extra screens laying around that I can hook up to, using Quad screens.

Anyone have experience with this?

I looked at the ubuntu amd binary driver documentation (https://help.ubuntu....DriverHowto/ATI) and it mentioned this:

If you are using multiple AMD graphics cards or AMD dual graphics (i.e.: notebook users), use:
sudo aticonfig --adapter=all --initial
or:
sudo amdconfig --adapter=all --initial

so it looks like it may work. I have absolutely no experience with this though

If it is anything like I experienced on Nvidia on Arch it will be a mess. Basically, X doesn't play well with this kind of setup and as a result neither will Gnome (Cinnamon is a Gnome fork).
