Day 2 with My Lumia 920. Gripes, likes, hopes...

Recommended Posts

Love the..

- Speed

- Battery life

- The feel in hand

- The Windows Explorer view for getting files to the phone is nicely organized

Issues I noticed

- IE10 Mobile shows desktop mode mostly, even with the setting being at mobile mode. WTH?

- Wi-Fi doesn't really work. it does connect but data isn't pushing through. I need to save on data when at home. Ack...

- Where is this supposed Skype integration? I just have a separate app.

- Nokia Maps cannot locate my address. I'm missing Bing Maps and Google Maps sorely. Nokia really needs to make using the app easier. It's not as easy 1-2-3 as Google Maps is. I couldn't even get my bus route info when trying out a sample destination. Worst of all, Google Maps mobile web won't support IE10 Mobile users at all. So much for that back-up.

Other things

- I wish web developers would treat IE10 Mobile like mobile Chrome and mobile Safari. I hate getting lite versions meant for BB users. I actually tweeted HuffPost about this to re-consider how their mobile site treats IE10 mobile since it is HTML5 ready.

The Skype application integrates it self into the phones dialer and contact cards once downloaded.

i don't know about the rest of your issues but in regards to the Wifi, currently the wifi turns off when you put your phone to sleep

MS is working on a patch to change this though so you shouldn't have to worry about that too much longer

The IE10 not showing mobile sites is due to developers being idiots. and instead of just checking for a mobile device. they check for specific devices/browsers. and if you're not on that list which they never update, you get desktop

You can get to bing maps if you open up Local Scout and then tap the map. Much better than Nokia maps at the moment, but I have hopes for it.

My only major gripe is that music isn't as seamless right now as it was with WP7 because of the transition to Xbox Music and lack of support for syncing with Zune software.

Other than that I love the phone!

I had the previous Lumia and it was a great piece of hardware. Give your gripes, I'd use my 14-day return ( if you have one which I'm sure most do) and Look at the Samsung Galaxy S3 or try and get a Nexus 4.

I actually put my Lumia 920 on eBay. It's going for $500 still, and I only paid $50 for the upgrade. Hoping Nexus 4 gets back in stock soon so I can switch back and be up a few bucks on top of that.

I never realized that Chrome and Google Maps were such deal breakers. It kills me b/c I LOVE the hardware; best look and feel ever. The simplicity of email and text is way above the other guys. I just wish web developers would stop shafting IE Mobile users and that the other gripes were fixed. I had looked forward to this device for months and everything just feels restricted now.

- Yes, some website still show up as desktop which is sometimes is a pain. But that is not a deal breaker, at least not for me. Sometimes I actually want that.

- Wifi works here. But I can confirm that it actually disconnects when the phone is on sleep mode. Great for saving battery but not great if you are downloading or doing something.

- Skype integration is awesome, once you go to somebody's contact card, you can call them using Skype or normally (whatever you have there). I still haven't tried receiving a call through it though.

- I personally love nokia transit. In may area, it is the only one that actually gives the exact bus times. But you can try the Gmaps app if you want google maps. I haven't tried it personally but I heard good things about it.
