Replace damaged hard drive with a larger, faster, one

Recommended Posts

I have a Presario CQ62-306AU notebook with a damaged hard drive that still works after a fashion in safe mode. It currently has a 320 GB 5200 SATA HD that I wish to replace with a 750 GB 7200 drive.

The repair manual says it will support a 750 GB 5200 HD, but also that the only 320 GB HD it supports is a 7200 whereas my current HD is a 5200. A bit confusing.

Does anybody have any idea if it will support my preferred option of 750 GB 7200 drive?

Sounds like nonsense to me. The RPM of the drive should be irrelevant.

The manual was last updated almost 2 years ago and probably just reflects the HDDs that were available at the time.

If you could live with less storage a 240 to 256 gig ssd would be the way to go (their coming down in price quite fast) if your system could run them. I put an SSD in a six year old HP laptop, and now it runs really great. Just a thought. :)
