Album Art not showing in Music apps

Recommended Posts

I've used Windows 8 since the Consumer Preview, but I cannot figure out why it has forgotten most of my artwork for mp3's or how to get it back.

The built-in Music app always showed it, and suddenly it doesn't, but also other music apps I have tried don't show it. The music plays fine but only very few songs show the art.

I removed the folders from the libraries and added them back in to no effect. Uninstalled and reinstalled the music app.

I know the artwork is fine since it worked without error before. I'm assuming there is an update that occurred that changed things. One app, Music Info, can't even find any music, but yet it worked before as well.

I also keep the update metadata off, although just checked and it was on somehow.

I posted this question on MS own forums and have seen posts like it, but no response that was helpful. I'm assuming this is not a common problem since I have not seen too much about this, but open for suggestions to fix, but one thing I am certain is that the problem isn't with the music files.

Thanks

Disabled? It has worked and is supposed to work, the apps provide a spot for it.

Thanks for the links, though only the first one is related to Windows 8 and specifically about WMA files.

This was working, even after I installed the RTM version of Windows, so it is not that it is something that's been disabled. It is a feature apps can use for playing music, not just the default music app.

Funny how artwork shows on the main screen in the "my music" section, but nowhere else.

Some are showing album art, without the cloud symbol. The thing is it has always shown my album art up until recently. I've even resorted to using Windows Media Player to add art to it, since it wasn't showing it either, and no luck. Seems no one else having this exact issue, so something I have went wrong but haven't found out why yet.

You can not see the album art because Windows 8 thinks they are operating system files and are generally hidden.

I lost all on mine when my OS died after rebuilding I discovered none had been backed up as Win8 had hidden them.

Well I have decided to use the Album match system in the Music app to help it locate the art. This has worked pretty well, but its a bit tedious having to do it manual one by one. I am currently use gMusic as the music app of choice since I can play all my music and the art is 100% correct.
