Why do most major new versions redesign their UI?

Very nice presentation to the original poster. I agree completely. A change of UI is completely useless in my option. It throws the user off and I feel like the public is prone to viruses posing as faux software - since UI's are consistent, they'll think that the virus is just another part of the antivirus program. And what is it with corporations ripping off Window's style?

It's so it looks modern. If no company did UI changes for major versions this thread would be called "Why don't most major.........."

I wouldn't buy a new car if it looked like it was build in the 90s

Because everyone knows that without a massively different interface nothing else has changed either. It's just common sense.

People are very visual. Minor functionality changes can be called major if it LOOKS different.
