Bend me, shape me: Flexible phones 'out by 2013'

Recommended Posts

Imagine treating your phone like a piece of paper.

Roll it up. Drop it. Squish it in your backpack. Step on it - without any damage.

Researchers are working on just such handsets - razor-thin, paper-like and bendable.

But rumours abound that next year will see the launch of the first bendy phone. Numerous companies are working on the technology - LG, Philips, Sharp, Sony and Nokia among them - although reports suggest that South Korean phone manufacturer Samsung will be the first to deliver.

Use it on the tube, roll it up like a newspaper, stick it in your pocket. The Apple iFold. (unsuitable for poker players).

I dunno, I feel like this is just gonna be another one of those technologies that gets bought up and then never put into practice. So many interesting concepts and ideas have been proposed in the fast, and yet they never seem to materialize into real products.

Build me a ship. How long would it take you?

Same thing, these things take time....and cost.

This could problably be done a few years ago (we'll seen foldable displays) but the cost to the end user would be too large and, since no one would buy it, the companies would earn a small profit therefor losing on placing this product out...
