Do you think something like this is plausible? I hope that it doesn't happen. Whatsapp is doing fine on its own.

To be honest, WhatsApp is a great app. I use it to talk to my friends from other countries. Whoever buys it, just make a better and not worse.

I use whatsapp after i migrated away from bbm and now that all my friends have iphones and andriods and whatnot its great that theres whatsapp to keep us all msging and it looks native in all platforms not uniform

Facebook already has a messenger app, it's not obvious to me what they could achieve with acquiring Whatsapp that they couldn't do by adding to the current Facebook messenger app.

They would get all the Whatsapp users.

Also they might then try to eventually link all the Whatsapp users with Facebook accounts, which would mean they'd have a hell of a lot more phone numbers.

If this was to happen the first thing I'd do (before they get taken over) is email whatsapp and demand all my data was securely erased.

Aren't unlimited texts a standard now for most contracts? Why bother with apps when you can have a native, well integrated experience?

I personally hate having logs in 20 places...
Not to mention WhatsApp cannot be trusted.

That is very true, however, for me I only get unlimited national SMS and charged extra for MMS and international SMS. So local friends just use SMS while overseas friends (or if need to send pic) usually use WhatsApp or Viber for that. If SMS/MMS becomes truly unlimited, then I'd probably just use SMS and ditch WhatsApp/Viber altogether.

yh texts are free, but you cant send mms and videos for free. With whats app its easy, snap a pic send it and thats it.

India has 100 SMS per day limit, after that SMS will be paid. And there is no contract system here. You buy Sim free phone and put whatever SIM you want in it. 90% are prepaid users so no monthly bill and plans. Applications like Whatsapp provide easy messaging between smsalcholic people like me. Plus there are lots of smileys, media sending options and you actually know that other person have seen you message or not

This was seen coming. WhatsApp currently as I know does not have any revenue going for it (as a sole company; if the devs have money (former Yahoo) then that's why its still up) and sooner or later it was going to have to either be put for sale or charged as a product (only iOS people pay once for it)

I use whatsapp for sending MMS messages as they aren't free with my carrier.

To be honest, I hope they will. They will only make it better.

Especially if they integrate it with Facebook, then you could use a web interface sometimes to
read and write messages when on the PC instead of typing on the phone.

Plus I'm pretty sure this would make Whatsapp completely free.

It's free on Android/WP and 69 pence on iOS... not really breaking the bank is it?
