Windows 8 Xbox Music doesn't recognize music metadata

Recommended Posts

My music is all tagged correctly. It is recognized perfectly in Windows Media Player, Windows Media Center, iTunes and on my Android phone. Xbox Music only sees the album art and song title. Albums and artists are both unknown for all 1k+ of my songs. I heard that a newer version of ID3 tags wasn't supported; but that if that were the case it wouldn't show up in Windows Media Player either. Since it does show in Windows Media Player correctly, what else could it be? Thanks.

I had a similar problem, and it seems the Xbox Music Player uses the indexed locations for the meta data.

all i had to do was allow indexing on my music folder and subfolders, right click on folder > properties > press the advanced button > tick allow files in this folder to be indexed.

took 10 minutes or so to kick in though, dont know how the indexer is scheduled to work.

Also make sure you have the necessary ntfs permissions in place for indexing to work like system and network service.
