GTX 660 vs GTX 660TI

What's the difference? Shouldn't TI be more powerful?

Here we have both - the TI more expensive but the standard 660 has a core clock.

I don't know anything really about graphics cards so probably missing something... At the moment though with my little knowledge about them both, the standard 660 seems the one to go for?

The 660 has less CUDA cores than the Ti, 960 vs 1344, and less TAUs. Clockspeed isn't everything, the 660Ti can do more per clock than the 660, its unlikely the 660 slightly overclocked core makes up for the loss of CUDA cores.

Probably looking at 5-10fps slower than the Ti but its ?40 cheaper. Its wether you think its worth ?40 more performance wise.

That helps a lot, thanks!

On another note, do you know if theres a better graphics card for around the same price?

I'd recommend 7870

The Radeon HD 7870 sets a new standard for what we expect from a sub-$300 GPU. With performance kissing the heels of AMD's own Radeon HD 7950 and the GeForce GTX 660 Ti, this card represents one of the best enthusiast-oriented values we've seen. A recent price drop makes it hard to recommend those more expensive cards because the extra speed they offer is relatively minor compared to what you'd need to pay for them.

The closest thing to the 660Ti is 7950 which is ?220~, the 7870 is more or less 660 performance for ?175~

It's a tough call between 660 and Ti version. If you want to stretch your pennies id get the non-Ti version.

I'd recommend 7870

I wouldn't depending on the game it sits in between 660 and Ti version for around the same price as 660, AMD drivers are atrocious so if I had chance of going Nvidia I'd probably get the 660Ti but if i wanted to save pennies I'd go with 660.

With rebates, you can find the 7870 (compares to the 660) or the 7950 (compares to the 660 Ti) for less. The 660 requires less power than the 7870, but the 7870 can (usually) be overclocked more, and the 7950 / 660 Ti come down to which games Nvidia or ATi are better at, or whose drivers you prefer.

if it helps, im running windows 8 with nvidia and i encountered zero issues. not saying amd has issues, but nvidia is running very very stable for me.

i'd go for the 660... the extra money spent on the TI is not worth it. if u are a performance enthusiast u wouldnt be looking at the 660er anyways.

Thanks for everyones help I'll take it all on board. Will they run fine on my 650watt psu btw?

Yeah, if it's a decent brand that should handle it fine.

Just like to run the odd game with good graphics really.. Got a decent system with a crappy graphics card at the moment, so that's what I'm looking to upgrade.

lol not sure.. Xigmatek?

I should have said 'as long as it's not a bad brand'. So yeah, Xigmatek is fine. The only ones to watch out for are no-brand PSUs, as their power ratings are typically hugely exaggerated - a 600W can be the equivalent of only 300W from a decent manufacturer.

660 and 660TI are fine for 1080p and if you're not a 60FPS+ freak. if 30-60+ (depending on the game) satisfy you'll be happy. You can max out most game (with a TI) in 1080p. For example, i play Far Cry 3, Ultra, 4XMSAA at 1080p with a 660Ti at around 33FPS-40FPS and i'am plenty happy about it and full of Eye Candy :) Crysis 3 performance should be around the same..
