Just got this email from google apps:

Hello from Google,

We hope you're enjoying Google Apps for Business.

Here's some important news about Google Apps—but don't worry, there's no need for you to take any action. We just want you to know that we're making a change to the packages we offer.

Starting today, we're no longer accepting new sign-ups for the basic version of Google Apps, and the option to switch to this version will no longer be available in 30 days.

With Google Apps for Business you'll continue to enjoy 24/7 customer support, a 25 GB inbox, 99.9% uptime guarantee, business controls and more.

You can learn more about this change in our Help Center or on the Enterprise Blog.

Thank you for using Google Apps.

Clay Bavor
Director, Google Apps

I'm not much surprised. They are focusing on winning enterprise users and they are paying customers.

Hopefully the email they sent you triggered a context based ad for Office 365.
