.NET 4.0 on Windows 8?

Recommended Posts

I have a program that I purchased. It runs very well in Win7 and .NET 4.0 Have a new computer that shipped with Win8. After spending a week setting everything up, I found a nasty bug. Seems that the software company found it too about the same time. They say it is a bug in Win4.5. .NET actually stops an application from receiving text input in certain instances.

They told me that MS has known about the bug for a month and admits that it is a bug, but has no immediate plan to fix it. The software company is going to have to write low level code to replace the module that is failing in .NET unless MS fixes it.

So... I can wait and hope for a fix. Format the drive and install Win7, or find a way to install .NET 4.0 on Windows 8

Is that a posibility or just a stupid idea?

Thanks,

KIrk

Out of interest, has Microsoft made a KB article with details of the issue that you know of?

I don't know? I have a very simple program that proves the bug. The program has three elements. A text entry box, a button object that opens an external window, and a menu item that opens an external window. You can type in the text box, and open the external window as many times as you wish from the button, but once you open the external window with the menu item, it disables text entry until the program is restarted.

Here is where you can download the test program: HERE

Thanks,

Kirk
