Diablo III for consoles 'up and running'

Blizzard exec Rob Pardo says console version of dungeon-crawler "looking pretty cool," but still not an official project at the company.

A console version of Diablo III is "up and running" at Blizzard Entertainment, but the game is still not an official project at the company. This is according to Blizzard executive Rob Pardo, who told Polygon the fate of a console version of the dungeon-crawler has still not been decided.

"We're still kind of exploring it," Pardo said. "We've got builds up and running on it. We're hoping to get it far enough along where we can make it an official project, but we're not quite ready to release stuff about it, but it's looking pretty cool."

Blizzard has been teasing a console version of Diablo III for more than two years now, though the project remains largely a mystery. It has never been said which consoles exactly Blizzard is working with.

Diablo III on PC and Mac launched in May and has since sold 10 million copies, including 3.5 million during its first 24 hours.

The computer game has all but died out to the hardcore. This will not bode well.

They might be able to add some things that get my attention again... I will most likely get whatever expansion comes out for Diablo 3, for instance.

That being said, what is sad about Diablo 3 is it marks the end of my commitment to everything Blizzard. That followed by Mists. Diablo 3 is the first Blizzard game that has come out since Warcraft 2 that will not hold my attention span throughout at least a year of single player and multiplayer gameplay. I have always considered Blizzard the company that made those iconic games that I kept coming back to but times are changing.

That is not to say that D3 wasn't a good game. I still think it was a really awesome game and I feel like I got my moneys worth of gameplay. Especially when considering what other studios are coming out with. But there isn't much left to explore in D3 once you've played through the same acts 3 times through Hell difficulty. Getting through Inferno means you really have to turn off the switch in your brain that says "haven't we already played this level like 10 times now?"

@NeoandGeo, not everybody has a PC or a PC capable of playing the game.

Diablo 3 is hardly a game that requires a pc even remotely powerful.
