It was something fun to do with friends on a friday night and with family after dinner. I feel like online streaming has taken away that experience from us :( So is your best memory of the video store? Movies? Renting Super Nintendo RPGs for the weekend, having to return them a few days later, then renting them again for the next weekend finding out my saved game was erased. I remember the thril of going to the video store to hunt down the elusive new release (Pre-Blockbuster/Hollywood Video days where there would be dozens of copies), because there was only one or two on the shelf. Spending loads of time finding a movie to watch, picking up either the case, or the little circle tag which had a number for the video for them to pull from the shelf. Getting a VHS tape and seeing the "Be Kind Rewind Sticker" on the tape. Renting a VHS Player which weighed what seemed to be 80lbs at the time, but was really a lot less. ;) Renting video games for the NES, feeling sad when I had to return them a few days later. Trying to sneek a peek at the "back section" for adults only which was usually small and behind a cardboard wall, beaded curtains or whatnot with a very watchful clerk. The COMPETITION! - Used to have small mom/pop stores, which ruled the industry and were very friendly which would spur competition sometimes. Then, when superstores moved in, the seemingly endless variety of movies, and many many copies (Blockbuster and Hollywood Video). Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
