Spyware Ads on Neowin? Really?

Recommended Posts

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't these ads Spyware and virus carriers? They lead you to sites full of spyware and crap don't they?

I am surprised to see this on this forum

Enormous over reaction there me thinks.

Also, hilarious to have those ads there and a Norton ad right under it >.<

Neobond is pretty good about the ads on the site. I'm sure he'll fix it once he is aware of it.

Also, just going to leave this here >.>

<Removed post>

You could also become a Sub Squared and get the same end result while not feeling evil... Just a thought ;)

If you surf this site, you should be smart enough -at least- not to click on them.

Well I'd say that would go for any site, unless it's a good ad and is advertising something you want, but like anything, caution is still needed.

or just become a member....

I am a member silly, otherwise I would not have been able to create this thread! :woot:

I just happened to have come in without logging in and I saw that.

Sorry, I should have explained better, I meant logged in to make the adbot go away

He probably means a subscriber.

Thank you :) I did mean member, I had a brain fart, I meant to say log in, lol :)

It seems some people are forgetting one of the community rules:

Advertisement Blocking.

Glorifying the fact in posts here on Neowin is strictly forbidden. We understand that some members could not care less to display advertisements on any website, and therefore block a stream of revenue that is required to keep this site running. We can not do much about that but please do not glorify the fact.

We have a subscription package that professionally removes all advertisements from Neowin for a small annual fee. We never ask members to click advertisements, and for those that do; we greatly appreciate this. Simply allowing the advertisement to load (without clicking on it) also returns revenue for the site.

I've cleaned the thread to reflect the community rule. (Y)

Hopefully the powers that be can sort this out. Personally i would have thought there was somthing in place to specify what type of ads are served up to the site. If not is that a potential option with your supplier?

Believe it or not there are a lot of people who come to this site who are not technically proficiant and maybe would click on the link, even if just by accident. Maybe their AV/AS whould pick up this and alert them to potential danger, if that happened it wouldn`t leave a very good impression and surely nobody want`s that. We should wan`t Neowin to be a safe place for everyone and no one to ever feel uncomfortable with browsing or posting, allthough sometimes i see replies to basic questions that are so patronising it makes me cringe!

Cheers
