Blackhearted
Most of the time games and programs will say that but then work just fine without a reboot.
darkrats
Unless it runs as a service in the background, I don't see why a game install would require a reboot. Some pet peeves: 1. Software that requires access to the net in order to complete an install. 2. Software that brings up a webpage at the end of an install. 3. Software that requires a reboot of your computer before completing an install. 4. Software that needs net.framework in order to run. 5. Software that looks for updates even when you disable updates. Games that won't run on my old IBM Netvista S42 with a GeForce 6600 video card! (I'm going to be buying a really new system after the new year, if my plans all work out. spaceelf
The game does install .NET and a few other things, but usually when something tells me to reboot I just ignore it and launch anyway. Guth 1 Share
SharpGreen
maybe that patch updated the Directx or something ? Quite a few games do that, and never seem to actually require a reboot.
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted December 17, 2012 Veteran Share Posted December 17, 2012 It's most likely just a safe guard, to ensure that if anything loaded any data into memory, that it'll be cleared before starting (So something like a DirectX update, it wouldn't like old + new versions in memory at the same time, etc.) Lol! Isn't that one of those torrent specials? LMAO! Uh, no. It's just the normal version of the game now.

Blackhearted
Under 10 seconds with SSD and Win8. About 10 seconds with SSD and Win7. There's more to a restart than simply boot time. You've also got the time you have to take to save anything that may need saving in apps you currently have open, then you got to close those, and then wait for windows to finally unload and shut down. Yeah true, I guess some people may have been in the process of creating some art masterpiece in Photoshop, while writing their biography in MS Word, then like... oh, I almost forgot to install my new game, better git er done. lol. Oh damn, I gotta restart now, and I had all that other stuff on the go too. lol!! -Himanshu- 1 Share

LUTZIFER
Just because you don't multitask doesn't mean others don't as well. I do, I was only trying to be funny or sarcastic, something like that. So just add another 5 to 10 seconds for saving/closing apps. No big deal. Besides, like the screenshot displays, you do have the option to NOT restart at that given time, like any other program installation or updates. Raa
Try installing Battlefield 2 from the original retail package. If you don't know : It asks you for a Name & Company (seriously - it won't continue until you enter both), AND a reboot when it's finished.
