Porn should be done away with period.

Can I get a reasonable explanation why?

Can I get a reasonable explanation why?

Why ask for something that doesn't exist?

Very odd that people are comparing the option to opt-in porn filtering that that of an infringement on freedom of speech.

ISP's should just bill Whitehall for site filtering software for those who want it, not **** with internet access. Last I checked, this was supposed to be a free democratic county and not one enduring a dictatorship.

If choosing between the devil and the deep blue sea every 4 or 5 years satisfies you then yes that would be called democratic.

Unfortunately common sense isn't applied nowadays anymore too much.

It's either blatant popularism, ignorance or incompetence that rules our countries.

Not to forget the money, that's the biggest political party and its members rarely are the voters.

Nanny state where the government decides everything for you

This about sums it up. Maybe the UK Gov't can ensure that kids are eating a healthy balanced meal also.

and then using the computer is not being used for video gaming but for homework studies or research.

and what happens if I were to say NO I don't have Children, when I actually do, will MI5 and Scotland Yard come crashing through the door and arresting me or seizing my computer.

I could go on by why bother I don't live in the UK.

Na, it's called democratic when you're voting for different political parties, which happened. I know it's very popular for people to throw around dictatorship though.

You sound pretty misinformed on the subject.

The Government does try to ensure kids have a healthy meal as it's in their and the kids best interest. I've no clue what you're waffling on about in your second sentence as that's not at all what the Gov. does or is even doing.

It's up the parent if they want filtering and that's why they'll be asked when this is implemented, they'll be no MI5 or Scotland Yard involved as for some odd reason you think there will be. :s

there are so many more kinds of sites that actually deserve to be blocked and cause children a lot more harm, like extreme dieting sites, how to commit suicide or self harming sites.

If this does get implemented I'm reporting the hell out of the Daily Mail site in the hope it gets put on the filtered list, half their articles are Women in their underwear.

Failing that I'll ask my ISP for a reduction in my bill as they aren't providing me with 100% of the service any more.

a) Stating there is a shortage of democracy does not equal saying it's a dictatorship. Please refrain from putting words in my mouth. :)

b) I guess you missed the sarcasm in his post

No, you simply have it logged that YOU (the bill payer) has taken responsibility for the decision, and have no legal recourse if your children see porn online. And you may be fine with that. Which is, in turn, absolutely fine. So sorry, where's the problem here?

Always amazes me when politicians and the media do something stupid like this, as if there isn't an army of 12 year olds ready to circumvent the new measures put it place by the 'experts'.

Besides, he should try to promote something I take great pride in providing....... Proper parenting!

Such as shifting the onus of what it freely available over the web, to the parent's discretion? That is EXACTLY what this is doing. Of course, it's only a technological aid in correctly showing kids how to use the web.
