Unless said mobile os / device will let me

- drag and drop files

- play mkv files with multiple subtitle / audio tracks.

Currently Android 4.3 on my Galaxy Nexus and Android 4.2.2 (Custom ROM) on my Acer A500 tablet. Pretty happy with Android overall, plan to go Android again next year when my contract is up

Running a Nexus 7 2012, will probably keep using it, and if I need a replacement I'd likely get another Nexus 7, great series of tablets.

after much deliberation,  it is android.

love the iOS, was with it for 5 years!

hard to switch at first (few month)

after you finally adjust, there is no reason to go back!

VLC for iOS lets you play MKV files. But the files need to be transferred via iTunes sadly. But can be done on iOS now.

Had to change my earlier vote. Changed from Android to Windows Phone 8 in the smartphone realm.

iOS 6.1.2 for my iPhone 4S because I enjoy my jailbreak.

iOS 7.0.3 for my iPad Mini.

Windows (Phone) 8 does everything I need and are my preferred computing choice. But iOS and Android aren't bad either. I just personally prefer Windows.

No one has and OS good enough to earn my loyalty. I'll move to whichever does what I want at the moment best until one gets it 95% right.
