By Jason White, NBC News
Four firefighters were shot and two of them were killed after responding to a large fire in Webster, N.Y., early Monday.

When firefighters arrived on the scene of the fire in the Rochester suburb, they were fired upon by one or more shooters, police said. Two of the firefighters are being treated for their wounds.

There is no longer "active shooting," according to police. Firefighters have resumed battling the blaze.

At least three homes and one motor vehicle were involved in the fire.

I guess firefighters need armed guards now too.

WTF these people are just doing their jobs and trying to save lives and property and someone just starts shooting at them?

Seriously W.T.F. is going on?

I hope these people get trapped in a burning building and the Firemen refuse to rescue them.

Most likely illegal activity of some sort so they didn't want the firemen to save it. Crack house? Meth lab?

In reality, it IS useless. There are 300 million+ guns in the US now. It will be at the very least 50 years before even a full ban would see any dividends. And a partial ban would take far longer. And you're not going to get shotguns, handguns, or bolt action rifles banned, ever.

This has always been the case where I live in Philadelphia. I have never seen the fire department respond without the police showing up first to secure the scene and maintain its security.

Better staff our emergency personnel with armed men... Oh, we have that? And people still got killed by someone with a gun? Huh...

Well first of all, this stuff happens a lot. EMS and other first responders deal with a lot. On another forum i'm on there are a lot of them on there and they say that they've all been shot at. had knives pulled on them and been punched in the face.
