linsook
I think neowin, first and foremost is a tech news website, well that's how I thought of it when I first visited(I came here mainly for the xp beta leaks news). Believe it or not, I lurked around a bit before I even signed up and joined the forums. The forum was underwhelming at the time but that was over a decade ago. The forums were not as busy and did not have the amount of member's is has today. I don't think anything needs to be decided on. The forums evolved to the way it is now organically. People started to hang out in the forums as neowin began to grow, nurturing a community which began to have discussions on subjects other than technology. The generals section came to be and has evolved many times as with other new sections created due to the direction of community discussions. Now I'm not saying we must have a cooking section, I can live without it however, I have no objections either. If Neowin just evolved without any planning from the staff they are damn lucky and probably unique on the Internet.
Glassed Silver
If Neowin just evolved without any planning from the staff they are damn lucky and probably unique on the Internet. Of course Neowin staff shaped this forum to quite a degree, but they only had so much influence after a certain point. It's a known fact that Neowin accepts almost any topic now, so what's popular gets posted mostly - regardless of a fitting sub-forum existing or not. In worst case General Discussion is there to help out and see how popular it is. Glassed Silver:mac
Pupik
Do it very well. :p And for this we need a subforum? Just create a thread and be done with it.
Charisma Veteran Posted December 30, 2012 Veteran Share Posted December 30, 2012 Am I the only one anymore that thinks a tech site should be well.... umm..... tech... we've turned from a tech site into an anything goes site as of late on the forum end... I see more political debates then tech debates.... if we had reviews of new food gadgets, then yeah sure go for it! See, what I LOVE about Neowin and the reason I signed up is because I love that i can get everything in one place. I like tech stuff, cars, video games, I can get real world news, I can get it all and not have to juggle loads of sites to (pretty much) keep on top of everything and find something interesting to read. Long as you ignore the politics section, anyway >.< Hum, Glassed Silver, Twiddle and 2 others 5 Share

JJ_
I've never come across a cooking/recipe thread on Neowin nor a great deal of general OT threads that warrant their own sub-forum.
Nashy
It would be awesome to see what others cook as a simple meal. I always struggle for easy meals to have ready when my partner gets home from work.

Jason S. Global Moderator Posted January 2, 2013 Global Moderator Share Posted January 2, 2013 to those saying that Neowin isnt a tech site anymore - or has gone away from the tech stuff - i'll say this: i agree with you, BUT, Neowin, today, is a nerd community. i wouldnt visit this site every day if it was just a tech forum. i cant handle tech talk day-after-day. i want to see what people around the world have to say about <whatever> topic. Also, Amazon started by only selling books and look where it is today :p Charisma and Glassed Silver 2 Share

Glassed Silver
As there seems to be some interest in this thread, this will be the official Cooking and Recipe thread for 2013. Please feel free to post any recipes you may have or cooking creations that you want to share with the rest of Neowin. Please be mindful of our members on dial-up and try to keep the dimensions of the pics and the size of the files to a respectable size for 1024 x 768 viewers. Please refrain from quoting images in your replies. Enjoy! I hope it's not obligatory to post recipes in here instead of creating your own threads from now on. One benefit of having one thread per recipe would be that you can discuss the recipe, share experiences, say thank you and tell when and why you cooked a suggested meal, etc without cluttering up the flow of other recipes and their responses. imho, that would be a missed opportunity and whilst the feedback per recipe might not be whopping... (damn, I'm hungry for a whopper now... damnit) it's surely a very welcome benefit to anyone who seriously puts some effort into their creations and wants actual feedback instead of simple likes on a post in a thread that likely only the first and last pages are really read of after a while... Way to burry your attention by participating here if you're really into sharing the recipe. :p Here's where a sub-forum with dedicated threads really can shine: It could be way easier to submit recipes in dedicated threads because the title would be helpful to skim the ones that might be interesting and it'd take less time to decide on one. We could have prefixes like "vegetarian", "meat", "vegan", nationality of recipe, etc... The tags could include the major ingredients which are always a great quick help in finding what you need. Also, it'd be easier to find similar recipes based on tags or a better forum search letting you search in title only and avoid irrelevant mentions of other dishes that only get mentioned. Not to sound like an ***, but there has NOT been explicitly stated demand for this thread, but for a sub-forum. As you can see, if others who wanted to see a dedicated thread see some of those advantages apply to themselves, too, there's a big difference and they might not want this thread - maybe explicitly be against it. I hope I do sound constructive enough, I'm a little in bad mood today so I hope my points are being taken and any subtle or not so subtle notion of a**holery is being kindly ignored. ^___^ Thanks in advance for that. b10h4z4rd
Snipped Moved this here from the thread. I think this is a good way to test the waters on the demand for it's own subforum.
