Question for WP8 owners

My contract is almost up with Verizon and I'm seriously considering upgrading my phone from Android to an HTC 8X. I really like the new OS, I've played with it several times at the stores and like how smooth and responsive it is compared to Android 4.1. My biggest concern is the apparent lack of premium apps for the platform. My question to those of you that have already made the switch, especially from an Android platform, have you found the switch to be worth it? Are you happy with your decision?

I haven't done an extensive search in the Windows App store yet but some of the apps I use the most are: Pandora, Mint, Twitter, Wordpress, Wells Fargo, Picasa, Gmail, and Facebook. I haven't seen those yet in the Windows Store, or at least not an official version.

Anyway, looking for opinions and experiences from those that have actually made the switch.

To sum it up :

Gmail : you can set up an account Inside the WP system and you'll get your mail, calendar events and contacts .

Facebook, Twitter : there's an official app for that

Picasa : no official app but alternatives do exist.

Pandora : alternative like metroradio exist.

Mint : a client is supposed to be in development but apps like PageOnce seems to do the trick.

WordPress : an opensource client do exist

Wells Fargo : No client.

Hope it helps.

P.S. : the migration was a breeze since I stored all my contacts info on my Google account. I only had to enter my account credentials in my Lumia 920 and voil

I've not looked back!

Yes a few apps are missing from the store BUT new apps are appearing everyday at an increasing speed and i've not really missed any of the missing apps that much, i just thought i would.

I've not missed an official Gmail client as the built in email client interacts well with my Gmail account and is viewed threaded just like Gmail.

WordPress client in my opinion is better and smoother than the Android one.

I'd say give it a go, the app situation is becoming less of a problem everyday. Let us know how you get on.

I have decided to go with the HTC 8X. I'll be picking it up this weekend and I'll write a summary of the good and bad as I switch from Android to WP8.

I'd be concerned with the HTC 8x corners rubbing down to black. Maybe a case will help.

Good luck. I love my WP8 phone.

I have read about the corner wear issues and I plan to get a case for the phone to protect it better.

Anyone have any ideas for a case for the HTC 8X? Got mines yesterday and can't find one that I like

Verizon sells a self-branded case/holster combo that I really like. I don't use the holster, I just like the case fro protection.

So... first impressions of my new WP8:

Good -

Very fast and smooth

Good integration with Win8 PC

Facebook app is quicker than on my Android

Integration with Office and Skydrive is fast and easy

Not so good -

Apps

Seriously the only thing I really have a problem with is the lack of some high quality apps to use some of the services I've come to love. If MS addresses this quickly, they can compete with Apple and Android, if not, they will remain a distant third or fourth place in the mobile market.

I looked at the 920 and 8X side by side and the 920 seems much bigger and bulkier than the 8X.

My Black HTC 8X is still perfectly intact and I got it on the UK release date. It feels really slim and light compared to my Omnia 7.

Wrote a blog about the HTC 8x 16GB if anyone is interested, check out my profile.

Had it for 4 weeks now, no problems, no peeling, no fading, no screen protector, no case, VERY happy.
