Good uTorrent alternative?

Question

uTorrent hasn't respected my set upload speed limit for well over 6 months, no matter how much I try to fix it, so I don't see the bug being fixed.

Can you suggest a good alternative?

or 2.2.1, that is about the highest version you can go till the entire program goes to complete crap.

I feel that 1.6.1 was the last version before the whole program went down the gutter =)

utorrent 2.2.1, Deluge, Tixati.

Only good clients left.

2.2.1 has a few more features and improvements over 2.0.4 (namely magnet links being handled properly), but is slightly more bloated. However, all versions after it have failed to add anything substantial other than more bloat.

Deluge is the best client on Linux.

Tixati is the new kid in town, and he isn't half bad.

The first two are basically universally whitelisted among private trackers because they're considered purist.

Im probably the only one still using eMule and kad lol

I Still run Bitlord 1.1

I use qBittorrent, and sometimes just for the hell of it, I'll take the torrent file and open it in bitlord (But that's because I worked out how to change some of the default settings and get some crazy speeds out of it, when there were enough seeding) 2.3 or 2.9 meg a sec (tho qBit is still the fastest I've had, I've seen peakes of 6 or 7 meg on that... the bitlord I kept for sentimental reasons((Had it for too long)))

OP clearly doing something wrong. Been using uTorrent for years on many many systems and have never had this "bug". Perhaps he should try configuring it properly instead of bitching about it when he's the only one having it and never showing pics.

I completely agree.

If not, just make a VM and install ONLY uTorrent there. This bug does not exist.

I stopped using uTorrent the moment I saw ads in it. People should just buy an el chepo seed box and ftp download from it like there is no tomorrow!

even though it takes 5 sec to turn the ads off and you never have to deal with them again?

I stopped using uTorrent. It was partly due to the uploading bug and the fact that it tries to run some bundled spyware when you run the installer.Currently I am using Transmission-qt. I am not sure if it is downloading torrents correctly or it is just the torrent itself.

I'm glad it's not just me who has this bug :)

Really can you mention the steps to do so?

Cheers

posted earlier in the thread

Turn all these settings to false:

offers.left_rail_offer_enabled/left_rail_offer

gui.show_plus_upsell

offers.sponsored_torrent_offer_enabled/sponsored_torrent_offer_enabled

bt.enable_pulse

gui.show_notorrents_node

offers.content_offer_autoexec

So your back KM?? Thought you had unsubscribed? ;) He used term uploading bug, does not mean its same issue you are saying your having. Nor did he state what version of said software he was using. Since he stated he sopted using when added toolbar to installer, etc. That was many versions ago.

So have you corrected your ntfs permissions and turned UAC back on to see if that is the cause of the problem your seeing. Also as you have never stated in this current thread and your last one was well before 8 came out - what OS are you actually running on? So your bug persisted between OSes? And your install was clean or upgrade? I don't recall from your other 2 threads where your OS is all messed up where you can not edit the registry or change mp3 tags, etc.

A quick google for the term "utorrent upload bug" gave a possibel answer to his issue.

Check if the upload is going to a peer on your local network.

utorrent, for some reason does not limit the upload rate to local peers, even if a global upload rate limit is set

So it could be his ISP is giving him IP addresses making his network think he's on a LAN

He could simply be experiencing this. outside of kB vs kb it seems the only real reason for his issue, unless he forgot to apply the rate for utp connections as well.

Exactly - and again he very well might have a true bug - my issue is he is unwilling to actually help us get on the same page as him.. Simple enough to post a graph actually showing his issue. Not worth his time.. But he will spend 6 months trying to troubleshoot??? They come out with versions every few days in the beta and alpha areas - has he tried those?

Yes there are posts about upload bug on the utorrent threads, some saying it fixed in specific builds, etc.. What build has he tried lately since he first reported the issue 6 months ago?

And now come to find out he has his OS all jacked up in the first place - seems he needs control of his machine at all times, so has disabled UAC. And clearly has some ntfs permissions issues since he can not edit files mp3 tags, etc. etc..

From reading over some of the bug posts - its possible failures do not count in the limit, maybe he is seeing lots of those?? Again can not get any info to help the guy with. Is the bandwidth that he is sending even across all his upload slots or is it all going to one peer? And possible this peer is just a bunch of errors that don't get listed as part of the upload so his pipe gets filled up?

If he is really seeing a bug, lets document the details of the bug - what version(s) it happens in and report it to utorrent so they can fix it for everyone that might be having the problem.

Again - details, details, details!!! But seems it would be easier to pull a few teeth with just fingers than get that.

Come to think of it, this issue does seem to have appeared a few months ago, around the same few months ago that I changed ISPs from Sky Broadband to Plusnet...

actually 1.8.2 is perfect for me. being running it since it came out. accidently upgraded a few times, and always came back to this version. i really dont see any need for improvements yet, as it is doing aeverything i expect it too.

i tried qBittorrent recently but its webui is very buggy and it doesn't allow you to save to sub directories from there

^ hmm you can always give Deluge a try :)

just installed that yesterday and am giving it a try, it's pretty good so far but i'll give it a week or two to decide if i like it better than utorrent

being able to use the webui with https is a plus :)

edit: just found out you can use the utorrent webui with https but it's more complicated to set up and you have to install another 3rd party app :/

One thing I didn't like about Deluge is the lack of some of the more basic features, labels being the main thing. Granted, there is a plugin for labels, they lack some of the simplicity of labels being built-in. Plus the development seems to have slowed to a crawl, the last update for Deluge was nearly a year ago (stable release, that is), which, while not necessarily bad, there are plenty of improvements that could have been made since, but haven't.
