Opaque Taskbar for Windows 8

Recommended Posts

I really don't get why MS didn't allow a transparency toggle, or better yet just disable it entirely since there's no transparency anywhere else in the OS. The OPs app works great. (Y)

it might be in the new win 8.1 leak already. check the comments, specifically member ians18, he says according to a website, they say fully non translucent taskbar feature is there.

I know this thread is really old but thought I'd add to it.  I found this by searching for how to remove the transparency from the Windows Taskbar and it all seemed ideal but after downloading the very latest version, it's riddled with adware and special offers and even redirects to the author's webpage upon installation (always a suspicious sign, imagine the info that could be relayed to that website.)

Also, it crashed on Windows 8, so if you're using that system, this "grey area" software isn't the answer.

With help of Tihiy (the author of StartIsBack) I have figured out how to make opaque taskbar in Windows 8. I have created a lightweight application which does that thing.

As you can see, with Opaque Taskbar for Windows 8 you will be able:

  • to disable taskbar transparency
  • to restore the transparency back
  • to make Taskbar opaque after Windows startup.
THis is how it looks:

Opaque Taskbar for Windows 8 is free, portable application and does not require to be installed. It is compatible with Windows 8 x86 and Windows 8 x64.

Nice little program you've made! :D

It surprisingly makes the desktop more appealing to look at. I guess Microsoft must have forgot to remove the transparency from the taskbar when they made the flat desktop theme.

Opaque Taskbar 2.6 is available.

New command line option "/notray":

The Opaque Taskbar will run in the resident mode, but will not show even the tray icon.

Tip: Opaque Taskbar works like a charm in Windows 10.
