ACTIONpack
I stayed at the Country Inn for 4 nights total but got charge for 5 nights. I call about this at the hotel and the manger told me that the two paid on hold, one will go back to my card. Well the problem was that both were charge and it makes it that I pay 5 nights. I also ask if I had any cleaning fee or anything and the lady said no. I'm waiting for the lady to call back and look into it. I need to get that one night charge back on my debt card today. Because I have to pay my rent and don't get pay until Friday.
Nick H. Supervisor Posted January 8, 2013 Supervisor Share Posted January 8, 2013 Sounds like a simple mistake, these things happen.
Shiranui
Perhaps they made you pay more as punishment for not quite having mastered the use of the past tense. ahhell, Rohdekill, Cute James and 1 other 4 Share
ahhell
Never pay for services like this with a debit card. Screw ups happen all the time and you are out real money until it gets fixed. I hope OP learned a valuable lesson.

This, banks are happy to cancel bad credit card transactions almost immediately, it can take weeks with other sorts of payment, and it's next to impossible with cash. I'd like to know how exactly you didn't notice this at the time you paid the bill.. I tend to work out my bills, before I pay them.

Nick H. Supervisor Posted January 8, 2013 Supervisor Share Posted January 8, 2013 I use a debt Visa card. Is it not the same? There's no such thing as a debt Visa card. You can have a Visa Debit Card, or you could have a Visa Credit Card. A credit card is the equivalent of a company loaning you the money, a debit card takes the money directly out of your account. If you don't have the money in the account, you can't pay with a debit card.

Tried to fix it for you to be slightly more comprehensible. As stated above, it's a simple mistake and at this point there's nothing you can do except wait. Pay your rent with a check very late in the day on the last day possible, and the deposited funds will likely have cleared your account by the time the rent check gets processed. You can also call your bank to find out when the refunded charges become available funds.
BGM
bit of a pain in the ass, but these things do happen unfortunately. returned cash usually takes an age to get back onto a card... somewhere between 5 and 10 working days wouldn't be unusual if i were you i would a) make other arrangements for your rent. perhaps agree to pay it on friday? alternatively you could ring your bank for an rearrange overdraft ASAP. i'd probably not recommend the cheque ploy :D b) stop using your debit card for large purchases, it's counter productive anyway considering you get a lot of love from credit card companies when you make large purchases (and pay them off in the same month) such as cash back, and built in purchase protections / insurances live and learn :)
ACTIONpack
I talk to the front and the manager should be in in 20 minutes. My question is when they fix it should I ask for a comp night for my troubles?
