One way to kick the habit

What do you do if your kids are addicted to video games? Hire a hit man to kill them off - virtually, of course. That's what one father has done in China.

Many parents have struggled with their children's extreme video game addiction, sometimes even resorting to professionals for help. However Mr Feng, a Chinese father, took the task of ridding his son of his gaming addiction into his own hands, and hired online hit men to ruin the son's virtual gaming experience.

Feng's son Xiao Feng, 23, reportedly began playing video games at an obsessive rate in high school, leading to terrible grades and a general unwillingness to find a job. Feng became fed up of his son's laziness and hired the higher-level hit men to assassinate Xiao in-game.

According to gaming site Kotaku.com, Feng's plan was to have Xiao become bored of getting killed all the time - which is definitely a different approach to kicking a gaming habit. He hoped this would lead to Xiao finding a job.

After repeatedly being killed in-game, a still-defiant Xiao told his father: "I can play or I can not play, it doesn't bother me. I'm not looking for any job - I want to take some time to find one that suits me."

Feng was reportedly relieved by his son's response, but there's no word if the addiction has been cured and a job found.

A Yomiuri online report of November 2012 detailed the extent of gaming addiction in China. At one student report centre there were 327 requests for help with game addiction from January to July of 2012. Additionally, the National Web Counselling Association reported having received roughly 150 similar requests in three years.

and?

Has to learn some how.

Hard for us to understand what having a one child policy does to a society. One child who has a mother a father and two sets of grandparents, that is 6 people babying only 1 kid.

"I'm not looking for any job - I want to take some time to find one that suits me"

He says "not looking" then says "to find one"...... odd combo of words...

Poor translation. I just looked at original article and he says: (paraphrasing) 'not wanting to settle, reluctantly, for any job but, rather to give himself a bit of time to find a job that is right for him.'

Besides the gaming, this sounds like my wife's sister who is turning 21. She graduated highschool, waited for her boyfriend to graduate a year later. They move in together, realize being an adult is harder than it looks, moves back in with her mom with her boyfriend! She still has yet gone to college like she wanted and stated she wants a job that works 9-5 and has weekends off. So right now she only works 3-4 days a week at a movie theater not doing anything with her life.

Truthfully it sounds a lot like the 90's generation (no offense to those born in the 90's+ that actually are accomplishing something in life).

Cut of his internet access or access to the console/computer, job done. I had 3 paper rounds 6 nights a week, right up till I was 16 just so I could go out and buy CD's or computer games. Nothing wrong with tough love as well, if you don't pull your weight you are out. My house, my rules.

LOL i shouldn't be allowed to breed because i think this kid needs tough love so he'll get out and be a functioning member of society?

All his parents are currently doing is enabling him to be a bum.

I'd do a much better job at having and raising children than you, at least my kids wouldn't be a bunch of self victimizing moochers.

There is nothing at all wrong with what i said. A few weeks on his own will snap him out of this, and trust me, he'll be finding a job.

I'm not turning this into a me vs. you thing. Kicking your own child out of home is cruel. I'll choose the option where my kid doesn't resent me for being a complete ******* to him.

Sure there are various other ways to get the "child" to stop playing video games, but this option seems like one of the more fun ways. It's just a shame that it doesn't seem to have worked.

I can appreciate him wanting to wait until he finds a job that is right for him, but at the same time I would remind him that he can continue to look for his dream job while working in something else. Anything to get a bit of money coming in and get him away from the computer for a few hours.

Some people get raised the real way, while others are born with a silver spoon in their mouth. I would just ignore him and don't take his bait.

I was treated in a similar way when I was younger, get a job or get out. Worked on me, so I guess my parents shouldn't of been allowed to "breed" too.

Can everyone stop saying "child"....please!! This is a 23 year old adult man. Who, by any cultural standards, should be out in the world making it on his own or with a significant other.

Parents need to grow a pair and actually be parents rather than trying to be his friend. Just how long should this ADULT be spoon-fed his way through life? He says he wants to find a job that suits him? Fine! Start by working at jobs until you find one that fits you...not sit on your @ss, taking advantage of your parents money, thinking you'll just wait for someone to magically appear at your door and offer you your dream job.

How is this guy ever to become a responsible adult if the parents never put him in a position to become responsible?

A 23 year old isnt a child. He needs to be on his own for a while to realize that he HAS to work if he wants to have a decent life.

Enabling him by feeding, and doing everything for him isn't going to get him up and off that computer.

Raising children isnt about babying them. it's about making them able to function, and contribute to the world on their own and have a nice life.

this guy obviously needs a wake up call.

I actually agree with you. I'd kick him off the computer and force him to get a job, if he didn't I'd make sure his belongings were on the curb. Any job would do, I'd make him pay me what he could because if he was on his own he'd be paying rent among other bills.
