travel Travel Ideas - German region - June 2013

My wife and I are going to her cousin's wedding in June. The cousin, and her family, live near Nuremberg, Germany. We plan to stay there, visiting, for several days, but would like to take a side trip somewhere for a few days at the end of the trip. We dont want to travel too far - somewhere by rail would be nice.

So far, my sister (who lived in Munich for several years) highly suggested we go to Prague. I hear it's a very nice city. I'd also like to go to Switzerland, or Austria, or Northern Italy....something like that.

So far, in the general area, ive been to Munich twice, Interlaken Switzerland, and Venice.

Based on this - what would you guys suggest? Thanks!

Few suggestions:

Rothenburg ob der Tauber

Dresden

Bamberg

Heidelberg

Salzburg

Innsbruck

... to name but a few. Depending on how far you want to travel there is a lot to see, usually easy to get to by train. All of the destinations listed are within under 300 miles from Nuremberg.

Ive never heard of Rothenburg, but it looks beautiful. We both love history so im sure it'd be fascinating.

I've heard of the others you've listed. i'll have to look into them further.
