Maybe next month, I want to upgrade my system. (clicky in sig) Giving my dad my i3 2100 setup. Free him of my e2140... I have RAM that I can swap.

What I do have to carry over:
CM HAF 922
8GB GSkill RipJaws X DDR3 1333
Various hard drives, SSDs, and optical
Corsair TX650
XFX ATI HD6870
All output devices


What I am planning to get:

I know it is all compatible and all that, but am I getting the best bang per buck? (Yes, I plan to overclock)

Everything I've read suggests the i5 3750k is the best bang for your buck CPU when it comes to gaming. Its the one I plan on going with as well.

Haven't heard much about that motherboard. I know Gigabyte has a Z77 board for I think 144.99 http://m.newegg.com/...N82E16813128544

Heard good things about that one.

I take back what I said. After a comparison the ASrock seems like a winner, especially at that price.

I always disregarded ASRock after I had to RMA a board twice. And never got the thing working right. But that was back in the 2007 era. I've really heard good things about them recently.

TBH, I initially thought of Gigabyte because of that same reason. I knew they stepped up their game but I didn't know they stepped it up *that* much. I had an ASRock back with my old AMD 3500. It had limited OC capabilities but I bought it because it was supposed to have an add on to allow you to switch to the AM2 socket from 939 without buying a new motherboard. They must not have sold all that well because I could never get my hands on one. Probably for the better haha.

Anyways, will you be doing any Crossfire? Looking at the layout of that board, it doesn't look like it'd allow for any PCI devices with a crossfire set up.

I plan to run my 6870 and my 5770 solo. So no Xfire, But I would like to run 2 cards regardless.

Bump. I'm deciding to order things within the next 2 weeks. Any board punches? I pretty much have the 3570K and H80 set.

Excellent CPU. Best bang-for-the-buck CPU you can get. I got one. I use a Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO on mine.

I got my 3570K for 169 at Microcenter though....
