Video Encoding Setting/ Software advice

Question

I have Canon Full HD digital camera.I do some home recording regularly

I record in 1080p format--->.mov files

I want to convert them to share-able format through email, Flickr, sky drive but not youtube, as they are private videos.

I am open to software suggestion as long as it is free and preferably open source that will take advantage of 4 cores of my i7.

I use linux most the time, I tried OpenShot.I find it quick and easy, yet the file size is large (HD), so I might go with non HD format if this is what it takes. every minute can take say 2-7MB, I amnot sure

Which program/ settings do you advice me?

I couldn't realize how difficult this is!!!especially with about 700 views.

Unless it is not quite clear, I am here to clarify

Hi medhunter i would suggest you report you own thread and ask a moderator to move it to the linux discussion area you might get more advise in that section or i suppose you could make a new thread there as i'll be honest i know nothing about linux or HD videos/codecs im quite happy with no HD cdecs just for the smaller video size plus when i have used a HD tv i never noticed the difference with HD video.

I think you got me wrong a little bit.

I dual boot win7 and linux. Linux is up most of the time.

I am not asking specifically for Linux program. I am asking for free or open source video editor on windows or linux

I am not sure this is the right place for the thread, but if not, just advise me to some where else.
