Video sometimes lags on PS3

Recommended Posts

WHY the hell does my video sometimes lag when I have 30mbps download speeds? Netflix doesn't lag, neither does gaming. But when I stream movies from my home PC to my PS3 it lags at times and ****es me off. Also, when I watch YouTube videos on my PS3 some videos lag and buffer for maybe 30 seconds before playng anf then buffering again. Someone help me!

How is it connected? Wired or wireless?

The PS3 is wired to the router. Sometimes I'll launch the YouTube app and some videos will play flawlessly and some play choppy. It's frustrating.

This. Also, what are your PC specs?

Core 2 Duo E6600 OC'd at 3.24 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 1 TB Samsung Spinpoint HD, ATI Radeon X1950. It would lag with those specs when I would try to stream 5-11GB MP4 files. Now I'm on a Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5234.

Is the laptop wired or Wi-Fi when streaming to the PS3?

I tried both. With WiFi it lags quite a bit and it's pretty close to the router. When wired, some videos on YouTube still lag but not too often and when they do it's for a short period of time. I don't understand that tho when my connection is really fast.

Edit: Oh and wired, the 2GB movies don't really lag at all.

Is the speed of your internet 30mbps on the PS3 network test, or just on your PC?

You computer beats the hell out of mine, yet I play 1080p 18gb DTS movies with subtitles just fine... so there is something there for sure that isn't right on your end.

Is the Laptop of powersaving mode?

What type of router do you have? It might be slowing done the connection enough to make movies lag...

Wireless is not the way to stream any HD movie. Even being just 1 room away from mine, it can't stream anything above DVD quality without having issues. You must go wired for 1080p quality.

Youtube lagging is either an issue with the speed your ps3 is connecting to your router/internet, or just youtube in general. It's been rather slow for me on certain ones as well.

Also, are you using either PMS or UMS to stream to the ps3? If so, make sure you disable subtitles, as this can sometimes cause issues with buffering. I also recommend setting the amount of cpu's to double what you have. I have a dualcore as well, but have UMS and PMS set to 4 cpus, and it seemed to actually help it buffer faster.. might be just a placebo affect though.

Some movies can eat up the buffer and will also just require you to pause it for a little bit to fill up the buffer. Then it will give your computer time to buffer more as it plays.
