GPS error takes woman 900 miles out of the way

Recommended Posts

Sabine Moreau, a 67-year-old Belgian woman, drove 900 miles over two days, thanks to a GPS that should have taken her on a journey less than 100 miles.

One would think after the first 300 miles or so, Sabine Moreau would have realized that something was off with her GPS directions.

Instead, it took her 900 miles over two days to realize she'd overshot her destination--by more than 800 miles.

Moreau, who started her trip in her hometown of Hainault Erquelinnes, Belgium, was headed to pick up a friend at a train station in Brussels, just 93 miles away, reported Gizmodo.

She turned on her GPS (and turned off her brain) and, after more than two days, several tanks of gas, a nap and minor car crash, ended up in Zagreb, Croatia. :s

"I was distracted, so I kept driving," Moreau, 67, told El Mundo. "I saw all kinds of traffic signs, first in French, then German and finally in Croatian, but I kept driving because I was distracted. Suddenly I appeared in Zagreb and I realized I wasn't in Belgium anymore."

You would think the "Welcome to Germany" sign would have thrown up red flags when she knew she was going to the train station in the capital of her own country...

GPS error puts woman off course, stupid woman doesn't realise after hours and hours she is way off course and in a different country.

This reminds me of the apple maps story where people were following their phones nearly to their deaths. (it was taking them to a desert in Australia, where they all get stranded)

Well, 2 days is kind of retarded..

Also, one wonders what happened to her friend.. Poor bugger is still sitting at the train station.

Either way, this women needs to be chemically neutered >.>

Common sense?

Rule 1: NEVER Blindly follow a gadget.

Or do what I do, and keep a map handy, if in doubt, a backup atlas map, (considerably cheaper) is always good in case of a mis-programmed or faulty gadget.

When I first heard this story (on the radio, they were taking the mickey), it was a 45 kilometer drive to the train station that should have taken about an hour, and she ended up driving 1200 km (745 miles)...
