I find the Navigation app that comes with Android works brilliantly :)

It is certainly good, but for a dedicated app with the maps on the SD card I find Co Pilot to be great. The Google navigation obviously eats in to your data allowance and is also dependant on you having a data connection to download the route and map as you travel. If you lose data you are stuck.

Very valid point. I have had an instance once where I lost data when on a motorway and didn't know which junction to turn off :/

So uhmm, if I root my nexus 7, does that do like a total reset of the data on the device? aka back to what I got when I first powered it on? The stuff I'm reading online sorta says yes, then some say no it keeps stuff you've downloaded, but then uh, yeah. Also, ABP seems to work fine for me on ads, at least in Chrome, I still have ads on other apps, not sure how to fix those yet :D

Apart from the obvious applications like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Chrome, Skype, Twitter, here are some that should be useful.

News: Use Google Currents, it's much more customizable than Pulse (horrible app) and FlipBoard (memory+data hogger).

Photo Editing: SnapSeed (don't use Instagram or Pixlr, they're both useless when you look at Snapseed)

AirDroid for transferring data between PC/laptop and phone.

Sometimes there are ways to root without wiping, but at the moment i don't think it's possible unless you've already unlocked your bootloader. This is the bit that wipes the device, but you can use adb backup (command line tool) to backup your apps and then restore afterwards. It also wipes the 'sdcard' though so make sure you back that up.

It's a bit of a pain to do when you've already set up your device but a couple of hours and it's done (mostly waiting for backup/restore to do it's magic).

As for ABP, that only works in the browser. Not sure if it's possible to block ads everywhere without root.
