A 69-year-old woman who crashed her car into a swimming pool Wednesday morning was unhurt, thanks to the quick actions of a Good Samaritan.

The incident was reported at 9:51 a.m. at the Granville Luxury Apartments, located at 2908 Willowbrook Court, according to Merced Police Sgt. Jay Struble.

Police say Pamela Gwyn of Merced was traveling in her 2000 Chevy Blazer eastbound Willowbrook Drive from Highway 59, when for unknown reasons she failed to make a right hand turn and lost control of her car.

Gwyn's vehicle traveled through a wrought iron fence on the outside of the complex and continued for about 50 feet, until it entered the swimming pool.

The Chevy Blazer was floating in the water when witness Craig Lafleur, 57, of Kingsburg, came to help the woman. Lafleur was able to grab the floating vehicle by its roof rack and pull it to the edge.

Lafleur broke the Blazer's back window. Gwyn, who was still conscious, was able to unbuckle her seat belt. Lafleur helped Gwyn out of the vehicle before it sank, Struble said.

Struble commended Lafleur for his quick actions, saying the incident could've ended differently, if the witness hadn't come to Gwyn's rescue.

Struble said Gwyn had no recollection of the crash. Struble said the case is the first time he's seen a vehicle crash into a swimming pool.
