my only reason for wanting to play with ubuntu is because i have a slight tinker addiction with my electronics. i won't run ubuntu more than just to say i can. can say with certainty it will remain primarily a chromebook after i get bored with tinkering and move on to a different device.

Why a Chromebook, and why not a tablet? Genuine question, because I don't see what they have to offer over a tablet.

OS and a real keyboard without carrying an "add on".

I still have yet to meet a single person who owns one

You've never met me that you know of (:p) but I own a Samsung Chromebook. I love this thing. I use it all the time at home. I have a laptop and a desktop with Windows 7 but for most of what I do at home, the Chromebook works just fine. At work I couldn't survive 2 seconds without Windows and Office. At home I am burnt out from working and I just want to surf the web and read my email and read the news and Facebook at bit. The Chromebook works perfectly for this.

I also own a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 that is running Android 4.1 now and with that tablet and this Chromebook I can do almost anything I need to do.

Some people just prefer the form factor and full keyboard to a smaller tablet/touchscreen. My dad has an ipad, but he almost always uses his old laptop, and all he does is facebook and such, he'd probably like a chromebook.

Yes you can but not for the price. Don't knock them unless you've tried them.

Chromebooks will get a rough reception on Neowin because they contain Google products. Hating Google is the norm here. I personally wouldn't buy one as they don't really fit my needs but for basic web browsing machines they're competent, cheap, and secure. Far better than netbooks in my opinion.

wait what? Google hate on Neowin? Most people here don't use Google to find porn to fap to they fap to the idea of being able to use Google in the first place. I think you got it backwards.
