I have a i5 3rd gen, 6gb ram with intel® HD Graphics 4000 graphics card - am I able to play it? I have it but I get a blue screen and an error that states 'error during initialization'...

Your onboard graphics are really holding you back. I have an Intel 4500MHD on a Core 2 Duo and it is not even playable. Frame rate is too low.

lol thank you for the comments but why is there the blue screen then? How much would it cost for a decent/good graphics card on my HP laptop?

Doom 3 will run. Doom 3 BFG will not.

you won't be able to replace the graphics card in a laptop. what you have is what you have.

Your integrated GPU isn't supported. Errors and crashes occur when using unsupported hardware.

What is the logic in buying a powerful processor/ram laptop with a crap VGA?
I preferred an i5 2nd gen with a nvidia offboard than an i7 3rd gen with crap intel graphics.

yes it will run but with low frame rates
